General Motors India, a subsidiary of US based leading car maker GM is planning to introduce a diesel version of its popular compact hatchback Chevrolet Beat in the country. According to company, the new diesel version of Beat will be rolled out from the it's production facility in Talegaon near Pune. Mr Ankush Arora, General Motors India Vice-President (Sales, Marketing & Services) told reporters that the one-litre diesel engine will be rolled-out from Talegaon early next year for company's small car, Beat.
The company will also introduce a 1.2-litre petrol engine from the same facility, by the end of this year, he added. The Talegaon facility of the company has an annual production capacity of around 1,60,000 engines and company is planning to operate both of its production facilities (Talegaon and Halol ) to full shifts by August-September.
GM India is planning to increase the production of its luxury sedan Chevrolet Cruze to 900 units from the existing capacity of 600 units. With this, the company is also in the process of increasing the production of Chevrolet Beat model to 4,000 units from the present 3,300 units. Besides this, it is also planning to enhance the number of its service and sales outlets to 300 covering 209 cities across India.
GM India has more than half a dozen cars in its India portfolio including Spark, Beat, Tavera, U-VA, Optra, Aveo, Cruze and Captiva.
