India's top 13 cities, including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmadabad, Pune, Kanpur, Agra, Surat, Lucknow and Sholapur are ready to follow the latest Bharat Stage-III emission norms for two-wheelers, which came into effect from First April 2010. The new BS-III norms has been applied for auto manufacturers to switch to more fuel efficient models with less CO2 emission. The country's rest of cities will also adopt new emission norms from October 01 2010 for BS-III two-wheelers. The BS-III norms, after coming into effect, there were some confusion about accepting these norms for two-wheelers, but the same has been clarified by the Ministry. Now, India's top cities will follow these norms for two-wheelers.
As per to official sources, a declaration to this effect has already been signed by road transport and highways minister Kamal Nath and is possible to be effective very soon in India. Furthermore, Lucknow and Sholapur will adopt to BS-IV norms for Four-Wheelers from May 20 2010. The country's leading two-wheelers manufacturers are also following new emission norms by launching upgraded version of old models with BS-III emission compliant. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has recently launched a new version of Honda Unicorn, named as Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler. On the other hand, Suzuki Motor is also planning to refresh its Zeus model soon in India.
